Orange’s mobile wallet app Orange Cash now supports Apple Pay in France, with support from German payment firm Wirecard, the operator has announced. The prepaid NFC payments service announced by Orange and Visa went live in the country in 2014, with Orange saying it would support Apple Pay in the summer. “Our innovative spirit helps us to develop the most useful and advanced services for our customers,” says Nicolas Levi from Orange. “We believe Apple Pay is just that.”

Orange is extending its Orange Cash NFC-based mobile payment service to teenagers in France, enabling those aged up to 18 to use the service with their parents in charge. “To create an account, parents or legal guardians sign up over the web interface of Orange Cash and install the app on their children’s smartphones,” platform provider Wirecard says. “Via the web interface, parents are in control of the sums of money, which should be charged on the account and get a real-time overview of the expenses.” Orange Cash launched in France in October 2015.

Apple Pay will be offered to Orange Cash customers in France when the mobile payment service launches in the country in the coming months. “More than 200,000 Orange customers have already used Orange Cash,” Orange says. “Enabling Apple Pay will allow Orange to offer this service to many new customers and provide an innovative and secure solution.” Orange Cash was unveiled by Orange and Visa in November 2013 and went live in February 2014.
