UK public transportation operator Stagecoach has begun adding NFC tags to bus stops in the city of Cambridge, to provide travellers with up to date information on bus arrival times.

Vipnet adds NFC transit payments in Croatia

Croatian carrier Vipnet has added NFC to its mPrijevoz service, allowing commuters in the city of Osijek to store their monthly Butra transport pass on their smartphone and validate it using contactless readers installed on buses and trams. Customers in Zagreb can also use NFC to pay for Nextbike rentals.

New Zealand NFC wallet to launch in 2014

The new CEO of TSM NZ, the NFC joint venture formed by Paymark, Telecom New Zealand, Vodafone and 2degrees in 2012, has announced that its mobile wallet will be available to the New Zealand market in the second half of 2014.

Swisscom picks Trüb and Sequent for NFC

Mobile network operator Swisscom is to use technology developed by Sequent Software and delivered by Trüb to enable bank card issuers and other service providers to provision cards over-the-air to subscribers’ NFC phones.

No NFC for iPhone 5S

Two new iPhones have been unveiled by Apple, a flagship iPhone 5S and a lower cost iPhone 5C. A Touch ID fingerprint sensor has been built into the home button on the iPhone 5S, as was widely anticipated, but NFC appears to have been omitted from the device yet again.

Monet+ adds Windows logins via NFC

Czech smart card specialist Monet+ and mobile network operator Telefónica have teamed up to create ProID+ Mobile, a solution that enables Android phone users to log in to a computer running Windows using credentials stored on the SIM in their NFC phone.
