Telecom Italia and Visa Europe to roll out NFC payments in Italy

Italian carrier Telecom Italia and Visa Europe have signed a strategic agreement which will see NFC payments rolled out across Italy to more than 31 million customers of the TIM mobile network from 2014.

Isis NFC mobile wallet goes live across the US

NFC payments are now available to AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless subscribers across the US, with the national launch of the Isis Mobile Wallet. A 20% discount on their first $200 of purchases made with the American Express Serve account is being provided to every Isis user as an incentive to sign up and use the service.

McDonald’s to offer NFC and QR payments across Belgium

McDonald’s is to roll out NFC payments across all of its locations in Belgium in the spring of 2014 using Seamless’ Seqr mobile payments platform. Working in partnership with the country’s Bpost Bank, Seamless will allow the bank’s customers to connect their bank account to the Seqr mobile app to make payments using either NFC or QR codes.

Rabobank to launch NFC payments in the Netherlands

Dutch bank Rabobank is set to commercially launch an NFC mobile payments service in the Netherlands next year. Rabobank customers will be able to apply for a payment card online and have it sent securely over-the-air to their NFC phone by technology provider Giesecke & Devrient, which is acting as the bank’s trusted service manager (TSM).

Statoil runs Heathrow NFC campaign

Oil and gas company Statoil is running an NFC and QR campaign on JCDecaux OOH media spots throughout London’s Heathrow airport. When users tap or scan one of JCDecaux’s 98 Powerpole charging stations they are taken to a landing page that wishes them a nice flight, delivers promotional content and invites them to follow Statoil on Twitter or LinkedIn.

Motorola proposes voice input patch with NFC

Motorola has applied for a patent on a microphone, transceiver and power supply built into a patch designed to be stuck to a consumer’s neck. The idea is that the electronic tattoo would directly capture sound “emanating from a throat” and transmit it to a smartphone or other computing device via Bluetooth, NFC or other wireless protocols.
