Consumer research undertaken by payments processor SIA has found that 94% of the Italians who have had the opportunity to try out NFC payments appreciated the technology, giving the experience an average rating of 8 out of 10.

Australian supermarket chain tests NFC stickers

Australian supermarket chain Coles is testing a contactless payment sticker that attaches to a customer’s mobile phone. “By simply attaching the ‘sticker’ tag to a mobile phone, Coles MasterCard customers will no longer have to take their wallet into store when making contactless purchases,” the retailer says.

Brazilian carriers test NFC in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro is set to become the first city in Brazil to pilot an NFC ticketing service for public transportation. Four mobile network operators are taking part in the pilot, which will run with two hundred pre-selected bus, train and ferry commuters until December this year.

China Mobile reports NFC adoption stats

China Mobile has seen a take-up of 2.5m NFC handsets, 600,000 SIMs and 1.4m NFC-enabled POS terminals, the carrier’s Liu Xin has revealed at the GSMA’s NFC & Mobile Money Summit in New York. Those figures are, however, “quite small” for China, he told attendees.

News Corp runs NFC campaign in Sydney

News Corp newspaper The Daily Telegraph is promoting its content using NFC and QR posters placed on the rear of the seats of more than 80 buses in Western Sydney, Australia, enabling commuters to download selected content from the newspaper’s website.

Poland’s Eurobank has begun offering its customers the ability to pay with NFC using T-Mobile’s MyWallet service. The service is already offered by Getin Bank, Noble Bank, Raiffeisen Polbank and mBank.
