Samsung to issue new TecTiles that meet NFC Forum standards

Samsung is to introduce a new range of NFC tags because its existing TecTiles tags don’t meet NFC Forum standards and won’t work with the new Galaxy S4 smartphone.

Inside Secure NFC chip sales fall

Inside Secure has reported a fall in revenues of 68% year-on-year for its Mobile NFC division. Revenues were just US$4.5m in the first quarter of 2013, down 61% on the fourth quarter of 2012.

USA Technologies (USAT) has teamed up with NFC platform provider Isis to offer a mobile loyalty program. Customers who use an Isis NFC phone to make payments at vending machines will get their fifth purchase free.

Pulse expands NFC antenna product range

Electronic components supplier Pulse Electronics has announced a new catalog selection of NFC antennas aimed at a range of devices, including point-of-sale terminals, in-vehicle payment terminals, security control and access panels and printers. The company also makes stamp and ferrite sheet antennas aimed at mobile phones.

Outdoor advertising company Clear Channel has launched ‘Human vs Machine’, a quiz game designed to begin getting consumers used to the idea of interacting with its new network of 10,000 advertising panels equipped with NFC tags.

Eye picks Zappit for NFC advertising in US malls

Mall media operator Eye has announced a partnership with NFC specialist Zappit to power the next generation of its Amplify mobile advertising platform. The Amplify solution will be deployed across the company’s network of 3,100 digital advertising displays, located in 250 upmarket US shopping malls.

Tesco: NFC payments are too complex and offer too few benefits

"NFC was revolutionary 10 years ago but I think it just might have passed its sell-by date", the retail giant's Lyndon Lee told attendees at a mobile payments conference in London this week. "We are developing a digital wallet, focusing on marketing and loyalty aspects, but payment may not enter the wallet."
