Nordic payments service provider Nets is to launch a mobile payment service in Denmark in autumn 2016 that will use host card emulation (HCE) technology from Japanese card issuer JCB, the two companies have announced.

More than a third (34%) of browser-based online transactions globally are now made on a mobile device, compared to just over 30% last quarter, research from Adyen reveals. “The increase is driven particularly by major Asian-based payment methods including JCB, UnionPay and Alipay,” the firm says. “The UK continues to lead the way in mobile payment adoption, with 49% of online transactions on mobile devices.”

Japanese payment brand JCB has begun a one month trial of a new JCB Mobile Wallet platform in Tokyo’s Omotesando shopping district and says it will launch the product commercially in 2013. The JCB Mobile Wallet handles payments, points programs, discounts and other special offers and is based on a platform developed by Dai Nippon Printing.

The EMV payment standards body owned by Visa, MasterCard, American Express and JCB is inviting mobile operators, chip and handset manufacturers and application providers to a two day meeting designed to help shape EMVCo’s NFC standards strategy.
