    Uber China adds cross-border Alipay support

    Chinese consumers using taxi hailing app Uber will soon be able to pay for their journeys using Ant Financial’s mobile payment platform Alipay when travelling abroad. “The partnership will enable riders from mainland China to use their Alipay accounts to pay for Uber rides when they’re travelling in other regions,” Uber China says. “Uber riders have been able to use Alipay to pay for their rides in mainland China since 2014.”

    Facebook Messenger to launch in-app taxi booking and payments

    Facebook Messenger users across the US will soon be able to order and pay for an Uber taxi from within the chat app. “Within a conversation, tap the more menu and choose transportation,” Facebook says. “You can also search directly for Uber and tap the car icon to request a ride. For a limited time, you’ll get a free ride the first time you use this feature.” Payments are being processed by PayPal’s Braintree.

    Uber ‘to launch mobile wallet in India’

    Taxi service Uber is to introduce its own mobile payment wallet in India, Times of India reports. “At present, consumers can pay for Uber trips via Paytm wallet. It [Uber] recently tied up with Airtel Money to facilitate payments via the latter’s wallet. The latest plan is in line with the firm’s ambition to make India its second biggest market after the US.”
