    German debit cards move towards NFC

    Vodafone Germany has demonstrated at CeBIT 2016 the first NFC mobile payment transaction made with a Girocard — the most common debit card in the country stored in a Vodafone Wallet. “The transaction was made using a smartphone and a POS terminal with NFC, initiated and successfully authorized by the Girocard system,” the carrier says. “In a next step, the partners explore concrete possibilities of joint implementation in the market.”

    Digiwell implants NFC chips at CeBIT

    Visitors to this week’s CeBIT show in Hanover, Germany, can get an NFC chip implanted into their hand by visiting the Digiwell stand. “It will cost you €69 (US$77) including the special syringe to insert it,” PC World reports. “You can get chipped for free at CeBIT if you’ll submit to the procedure on stage.”
