UK supermarket giant Tesco’s PayQwiq mobile payments service, which lets customers pay using an Android or Apple phone by snapping an image of a QR code located at each checkout, is now live in 524 of the retailer’s stores in London and Edinburgh. Customers with a Tesco Clubcard automatically get reward points when they pay with PayQwiq, the retailer says, making checkout quicker for loyalty cardholders than paying via either contactless or chip and pin. The service has been on trial since September 2014.

Commuters in taxi cabs across the UK cities of London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham will soon receive context-relevant messages as they travel. A total of 4,000 Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons are being installed in taxis by mobile proximity marketing provider Proxama and taxi advertising provider Ubiquitous. Proxama also partnered out-of-home media owner Exterion to roll out beacons across public transport services.

UK-based supermarket giant Tesco is trialling a mobile payments service based on QR codes, Marketing Week reports. “The PayQwiq service is currently available at 16 of Tesco’s smaller Express stores in London, as well as at 26 of its Express, Metro and Superstore store formats in Edinburgh. It is currently only available to a small number of staff members as part of a trial, although there are plans to extend that to customers in October,” the article says.
