    Customers of mobile financial services provider MyPay in Myanmar will soon be able to make payments using their mobile phone through a new service based on technology from mobile wallet provider Cellum. “Cellum Mobile Next, Cellum’s market-tested mobile commerce wallet, will be available under the MyPay brand,” Cellum says. “The innovative wallet offers the latest functions like payment by QR code, P2P transfers, online checkout, airtime top-up and bill payment. At a later stage, NFC services will also be added.”

    PayPal adds buy buttons

    PayPal has unveiled a new platform that enables merchants and partners to embed buy buttons in emails, social shares, blogs, articles, ads and apps through a set of APIs. “The PayPal Commerce tools, which are currently in beta, allow merchants to securely sell across contexts — anywhere consumers are online or on their mobile devices,” the company says. The platform is the result of the company’s acquisition of mobile commerce platform Modest in the second half of 2015.

    Apple Pay reaches mobile app inflection point

    Apple Pay has seen an acceleration in mobile app acceptance across the US, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, who calls it an “inflection point” in a recent investor note reported by Quartz. “While most attention has been paid to which retail stores have started accepting Apple Pay, the iPhone-based payment service has quietly made serious progress in mobile commerce,” the publication says. Apple Pay is also leading POS mobile payments in the US, according to the firm.

    Facebook bots to enable Messenger commerce

    Facebook has given some developers access to an as yet unannounced Chat SDK that allows them to build interactive experiences and “bots” in Messenger for shopping, booking travel and more, according to TechCrunch. “The Chat SDK allows developers to create bots that users can send text messages to directly and that automatically respond with information, images, location services, product prices, buy buttons and more,” the publication reports. “The Chat SDK can also tap into Messenger’s built-in payments system to let users make purchases via bots.”

    More than 10m consumers sign up for PayPal One Touch

    More than 10m consumers have now opted in to PayPal’s One Touch mobile payments solution. “PayPal is processing millions of One Touch transactions each month,” the company says. “More than 50% of the Internet Retailer 500 and more than 1m merchants around the world have One Touch enabled.” PayPal unveiled One Touch in August 2014 and expanded the service to 13 markets in August 2015.
