Samsung Pay to launch Samsung Rewards programme in the US

Samsung Pay
TAP AND EARN: The more Samsung Pay transactions made, the more rewards offered

Samsung Pay is to launch a rewards programme in the US this week that will let users earn points for each purchase, which can be redeemed for items such as gift cards at participating stores, prepaid Samsung Rewards Visa gift cards, Samsung products “and more”, the company says.

“After a certain number of monthly transactions, enrollees will achieve different status tiers for that month to multiply the points they receive,” Samsung Pay explains. “Five transactions in one month, for example, will give a user Silver status and twice the points for every transaction they conduct using Samsung Pay.

“Twenty monthly transactions awards a user Gold status, resulting in triple points, and 30 monthly Samsung Pay transactions puts a user in the Platinum tier where they earn quadruple points.

“In addition, the program will award select active enrollees with instant win prizes, starting with a trip for two to Napa Valley, with new prizes rotating regularly.”

‘Holistic digital wallet’

Users will be able to track their points and rewards status, browse offers and redeem their points directly within the Samsung Pay app and eventually via Samsung.com.

“Samsung Rewards represents Samsung Pay’s latest innovation to push the service beyond just credit or debit cards, and provide enhanced features and functions to make it a holistic digital wallet,” the company adds.

Samsung Pay’s global general manager Thomas Ko spoke to NFC World about the company’s “aggressive expansion” plans — including the rollout of a new deals feature — at Money20/20 in Las Vegas last month.

Ko added the mobile payments service would start operating in Malaysia and Thailand by the end of 2016.
