Transport for London (TfL) is testing the use of Bluetooth beacons that work with a mobile app to provide guidance to visually impaired passengers travelling on the London Underground. “Currently most have to rely on friends to help them get used to familiar routes or phone ahead to request assistance from London Underground staff,” the BBC reports. “Many do not feel confident about using the whole network.”

“The NFC Forum works to ensure that tools are available to allow applications to operate with the appropriate level of security,” says the industry standards body. “Mr Miller’s demonstration underscores the importance of providing appropriate security measures at the application layer and enabling users to adjust security settings to suit their own needs and preferences.”
