Apple has added a further 23 banks and credit unions to its list of Apple Pay supporting financial institutions in the US, AppleInsider reports. The expansion follows last week’s announcement of support from Canadian banks Tangerine and President’s Choice Financial.

Customers of Canada’s Tangerine Bank can now log into its mobile banking app for iOS by authenticating themselves with their iris or voice. The bank is using technology supplied by EyeVerify and Nuance’s VocalPassword for the service, which will be supported on the Android platform in the coming months.

Customers of Canada’s Tangerine Bank will soon be able to conduct transactions using Secure Chat, a service that will let them interact with the bank over a real-time chat session. “Clients will be able to interact on a wide variety of confidential banking matters, which could include getting specific account details or completing transactions, all within a chat session from the convenience of their mobile device or computer,” the bank says.

Scotiabank-owned direct bank Tangerine is reportedly experimenting with facial recognition technology on mobile devices. “The bank was the first in Canada to allow check deposits by taking photos with mobile phones in 2013 and to use fingerprint scanning and voice-enabled banking,” Bloomberg reports. “Tangerine is now delving deeper into such biometric technology to improve customer experience and security.”
