Chinese visitors to the UK can now use Alipay at any retailer accepting mobile payments platform Zapper. “This partnership will allow over 250,000 Chinese tourists in the UK to pay using the Alipay app in over 1,000 locations nationwide,” Zapper says. “With Zapper’s smart QR technology enabled to take payments from the Alipay app, 11.7m Chinese tourists visiting Europe each year will be able to conveniently pay using Alipay at any venue also accepting Zapper.”

More than 1,000 restaurants, bars and pubs across the UK are deploying Z-Beacon, a new platform developed by QR code-based mobile payments provider Zapper. The platform uses Bluetooth Low Energy beacons to send out personalised messages, offers and rewards to customers’ mobile devices. Restaurant chain CAU is among the companies installing the technology and has rolled out Z-Beacon to all 17 of its locations across the UK.

US restaurants using Revel Systems’ iPad point-of-sale service will be able to activate mobile payments platform Zapper as an additional payment option for customers. “Diners will be able to scan a QR code printed on their bill and pay from the app, without having to wait on their server,” Zapper says. “The offering gives restaurants a fully integrated pay-at-table mobile solution.”

StreetSmart, an organisation that raises money for homeless charities by adding a voluntary £1 donation onto bills in participating restaurants, is enabling diners to make a mobile donation by scanning QR codes distributed on table cards in more than 600 locations across the UK. The platform is being provided by mobile payments company Zapper, which will also be donating an additional 50p to StreetSmart for every new user that signs up to use the service over the next six months.
