    UK bank tests voice commands with Google Home

    Starling Bank, a UK mobile-only bank, is testing an integration of its API with Google Home, the voice-activated speaker powered by Google Assistant. A video shows a user using voice commands to ask for her balance and spending history, and make a person-to-person payment.

    Google Home owners get voice commands for grocery shopping

    Owners of the Google Home speaker powered by Google Assistant can now buy groceries using voice commands. “Order from participating Google Express retailers, including Costco, Whole Foods Market, Walgreens, PetSmart, Bed Bath & Beyond and more than 50 other national and locally available retailers,” Google says. “Over the coming months, we’ll add new features and enable purchases for other apps and services.”

    Amazon and Google to add phone calls for virtual assistants?

    Consumers with Amazon Echo or Google Home could use the virtual assistant devices to make or receive phone calls later this year, the Wall Street Journal reports. Despite security concerns, sources told the publication that turning the assistants into home phones was the “logical next step for the artificial intelligence-powered speakers”.

    An APK teardown conducted by XDA reveals that Google plans to add the ability to make payments directly through its Google Home voice-activated speaker powered by Google Assistant. “The string ‘you’ll soon be able to pay for things’ when you use Google Assistant indicates the service is not yet live… but it soon will be,” the publication reports. “Plus, you’ll be able to specify which Assistant-connected devices will be able to participate in making payments.”
