LG will launch its LG Pay mobile payments service in Korea in June this year using a mobile payment technology that works by “generating a magnetic signal from a mobile device such as a smartphone, and paying it to a general credit card terminal”.

Retail giant Muji is to accept Alipay mobile payments in nearly 200 stores in mainland China. “At the same time, the two parties will connect their membership systems,” China Tech News reports. “Once consumers complete payments with Alipay in Muji stores, they can gain Muji’s membership card and realise automatic points accumulation.”

Samsung is preparing to launch its own rewards program that will let consumers earn and redeem points each time they use Samsung Pay. “The application process at the local patent office is already done and the membership program should help Samsung lure new users and sell more Samsung smartphones,” Android Headlines reports. Samsung Pay is now supported by 300 major and regional banks and credit unions, Samsung has announced. “Value-added services such as gift cards and membership and loyalty features have been added as well with more than 110 merchants joining Samsung Pay’s gift card program and more than 140 retailers participating in its membership and loyalty cards program,” the company says.

Samsung Pay users across the US can now add their merchant membership and loyalty cards to the mobile payment service and receive savings, rewards and other offers by having a card’s barcode scanned by the cashier at the point of sale.

Samsung Pay now has approximately five million users in South Korea and the US who have processed more than $500m through the mobile payment service in the first six months since its launch. The service is due to be rolled out in China next month, Samsung has revealed, followed by a global expansion to Australia, Brazil, Singapore, Spain, the UK and Canada later in the year.
