A teardown conducted by iFixit shows that Apple is using NFC chips from both NXP and AMS in the new iPhone 6, which began shipping today. The inclusion of an NXP chip was expected but the AMS chip is a surprise addition.

Watchdata Technologies has announced the commercial availability of SIMpass SC, an all-in-one NFC SIM solution that incorporates an NFC antenna within a SIM card form factor. The product was unveiled at the 2012 Mobile World Congress. “This allows any mobile handset to be transformed into a contactless NFC payment device by simply changing the SIM card,” the company says.

ID technology provider Morpho is to offer Inside Secure’s new NFC-on-a-SIM technology to its customers under the Morpho SIMply NFC-Revolution brand name. “Our bridge solution enables mobile subscribers to be introduced to NFC without the need to change their phones,” says Morpho’s Paul Naldrett. “We are convinced that this is the way to bring NFC to mass markets.”
